I was in Maine, for a year of high school before entering college. Small school, small town. My first month there, I was shopping at the hardware store, looking for things to pin up posters and organize my desk. As I get to the counter, the clerk says:

“You’re new around here, ain’t ya?”

“Yeah, just moved to the U.S.”

“Oh, cool! Where from?”

“France. I grew up there.”

“Oh wow! Say, do they have running water over there?”

YES! I had the same thing. “Do they have indoor toilets in Germany?”
